Elections

The Citizens United Decision of 2010 paved the way for unlimited donation by Individuals, corporations and unions to a Super Pac. This 5-4 decision has brought big money into campaigning and elections. The Super Pac cannot coordinate their spending or activities with their candidate or their campaign. I do not support this decision by the Supreme Court to allow unlimited money into elections. I will work to remove the Citizens United decision.

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was written to stop limitations placed on the black vote. It also required states to get preclearance from the Federal Government before enacting any changes to election rules. These provisions have been overturned and have watered down
the Voting Rights Act. I support the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act which would restore requiring states to gain pre-clearance from the DOJ if voting rights violations are noted in state elections.
